Our story in SDVoyage

Our journey in opening a business was one for the books! We are pleased to announce our story was published on SDVoyage last week. We hope you enjoy it, and visit us soon!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg & Moorea Wood.

Hi Greg & Moorea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.

It all started with a dream! Legacy Gymnastics Academy is a family-owned and operated business. Countless hours of devotion went into starting the business, including a precursory outdoor program to grow the love for Gymnastics and Parkour while building the Legacy name.

On November 4, 2022, our doors opened to the South San Diego community with a Flip for Free Soft Opening event. It was a joy to show all of our current patrons and new families the incredible new facility we have been working so hard to open. The Grand Opening took place December 3; thank you for attending, San Diego families!

Legacy is a recreational and competitive Gymnastics and Parkour gym that offers a family atmosphere with experienced USAG and WFPF-certified coaches who are highly motivated to provide a safe and fun environment for all our athletes.

Our mission is to give families a place to call home…where all athletes learn, flip, and evolve into the person we all strive to be.

At LGA, we offer an experience of two gyms under one giant roof, giving families more options to explore their athletic abilities. Not only do we offer classes to all ages and levels (little walkers to adults), we also offer parties, camps, open gyms, and more! You may enroll now!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

The dream of opening one of the largest Gymnastics and Parkour Gyms has been the guiding force in getting through a number of obstacles. We had a vision to provide a massive facility with two gyms under one roof. So, finding the right location and building to suit our programs was difficult, especially during the pandemic. We located our facility in 2021; the excitement was huge, but the frustration of navigating through permits and ordering materials and equipment had us wondering if it would ever happen. With relentless drive and a never-give-up attitude, the owners, Greg and Moorea Wood, kept the goal alive with consistent, positive statements such as, “We will get there,” “We are on track,” and “We are moving forward.”

When we began our outdoor program, setting up and tearing down our equipment each day at the parks was far from ideal. But our setup in the parks enabled us to attract some of the best families we could have ever asked for. Dealing with delays in construction at the facility was no picnic. Most setbacks were out of our construction team’s control. But at the end of the day, our top-of-the-line gymnastics and parkour gym now matches our vision, so it was worth the wait.

We are eternally grateful for having such a strong team on this journey!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?

We love San Diego! It has the best communities and people from North County to South San Diego!
